Ok going to organize a post of top ten Drag open body and Door cars again, if you think you're fast enough please dig out your best ET slip and email me [email protected] or post below, will post my findings here tomorrow. Will do some catagorizing as guys like Bruce M. and Ray Cox have some big performers with heavier and lesser tired race cars. Everyone should know that there was progress this year and fastest of all time has been shuffled a bit.
Here's the list from 2003 (might have some left out, first time I ever attempted this list) #1 Rodney Butler 6.91@202 #2 Marty Palbykin 6.95 #3 Arnie Beswick 6.95@215 #4 Bill Mellott [email protected] #5 Bill Krech [email protected] #6 Mike Cooper 7.450@175 #7 Jeff Kauffman 7.49@175 #8 Steve Barcek 7.50@189 was he driving? #9 Dan Sweeney 7.50@186 #10 Paul Spotts [email protected] #11 Eddie Hill 202mph MAYBE #12 Eric Larson Grocery Getter Advanced ET? MAYBE 2004 has been a good year! -Rob |

Tom V,
Is your question for "Steve" referring to me? If so, I know nothing of 6.80s from the Boss Bird. It is possible it went 6.80s with a Ramchargers 426. Maybe that is the reference to what the box says. Does this box say it went 6.80s with Pontiac power? As I said in my earlier post. My info is not second hand or heresay. I got it direct from Arnie and I asked him if he would put that in writing as to his quickest/fastest Pontiac pass ever. He said sure and signed, dated it and put his all time best ET and MPH on the picture. It is in writing. Again, if Arnie is of his word, that is it. I do not question him. It does seems a bit quick but, it could have happened. Just like E Hills disputed 202mph pass in '62. Garlits was NHRAs first Official 200 mph pass in '64. but, that was under NHRA rules at the time. As we know there was pleny of drag racing outside of NHRA in the 60s. It is very possible and believable that Eddie Hill took that gas blown twin Pontiac to 202 in May of that year. Remember, the biggest problem with ETs and MPH back then was TRACTION. Eddie ran dual slicks, this gave him better traction than anyone at the time. With conditons ( weather, track condition, engine set up, etc) just right and using the clutch just right, I bet he did do it. Getting it a second time to back it up is another thing but, Rob here is not asking for anyone here for a second backup pass as do the Official sanctioning bodies. If so, the list on this thread here would look vastly different. On another note Chris "The Greek" Karamsines took his blown fuel digger over 200 ( 204) in 1960. This further shows 200 MPH times were very possible for E Hill in '62. The signed, documented photo of the Boss Bird with the 6.94 is available to view or copy (as many have) on my website on my "Pontiac History" page. Steve www.pontiacheaven.org

I for one would like to see the most comprehensive list possible, even if it means the 50 fastest. Then any subset could be easily broken out to show better comparisons. And the more info the better. Year of ET, Year, Make, Model, Weight, Power Adder, Source, Driver, etc. And I agree with Steve that each car shold be listed even if the same driver campaigned it. Let's face it, the magazines are never going to compile a fastest Pontiac list, and if they did they wouldn't necessarily have the resources we have here thanks to the web.

Steve B,
Did you read my previous quote. Who ever posted the orifinal info on the Boss Bird model says the car has Ram Air V heads and ran 6.80s. (Turns out it was BANDITONE on page 2 of this topic, see for yourself). That is what the box says supposedly. I have not seen the box yet. Quote: " Is your question for "Steve" referring to me? If so, I know nothing of 6.80s from the Boss Bird. It is possible it went 6.80s with a Ramchargers 426. Maybe that is the reference to what the box says. Does this box say it went 6.80s with Pontiac power? Yes according the the above mentioned post (with Ram Air V heads). I have seen your post and the picture signed by Arnie where he wrote that he went a 6.94 at 215 or so. The LATEST 6.80s deal with V heads is what I am asking about that is being sold on his web site and other web sites. Tom V.

Yes I think you're right about one of John's runs being quicker, probably the sand trap one I missed. I'll have to call John and see if he has the timeslips handy.
I remember the 6.975 run well because it was just after Mark Kauffman ran 6.995. Rodney left & looked fast, went through the traps and the numbers lit up. You and Travis turned to John and said "there's your six second pass"! I looked at y'all and said "real good mph too". You both turned back to the scoreboard and seen the even more exciting number! That was a huge day at Norwak. -Rob |

I think it's pretty obviuos that Ken isn't ignoring what was done over the years but he would like to see what HE will be up against this year. He has to step it up and also keep the shop running meaning his build and TNT time is somewhat limited. Anyway my money is on Ken this year. Yesterday I drove up to the shop and threw some cash on the counter and told him to go buy some go fast parts.

Well, I consider Ken, Karen and Danne as good friends. If Ken has to call me for some sponsor money to race this season, and if I have it, he's got it free and clear, but he will have to put a company logo on the car so I can write it off. I just have to hope 2005 is a good year so I don't end up living in a cardboard box. |

Brian, What I was hinting around too, is that if Steve wants to be so historically accurate about everything then we need to know who the man behind the wheel was as he's what was in the ride. If you notice Welter's(sp? lol) pass has Butler driving with him mentioned.
The other problem I have is Steve is bad about belittling others accomplishments and disregards that they are putting up some stellar numbers for the type of car used and more importantly weight. It takes a helluva lot of power from Rex to put up his times in his car, now take that motor and put it in a 1900 pound dragster and it will run... Misus: Agree "Doesn't matter that he wasn't driving, he's still tuning it. You make it sound like "running 7's in a go kart" is easy. Well, if it were, everyone on this board with a dragster would be doing it" It is easy install a BBC. No the point was 7's in a door car is alot more impressive in my mind vs. in a dragster of anykind. As for the rest of the performance ifs and whens don't go far when it comes to time slips produced. |

I agree with the DUDE we should stick to the last couple of years. History is great but that's just what it is ....HISTORY.

But, don't you see, George? That's the thing about Pontiac racing history; and the sad thing, as well. Those numbers that were put up as far back as 35 years ago, really haven't been marginally improved on in as many years. It's particularly sad, especially given the huge strides made in engine block, cylinder head, induction, and camshaft design in this long of a time frame. |
