Is it possible for the coolant to leak into the exhaust? I seem to be loosing coolant and I cannot find any leaks. Not going into the block, oil looks good. No leaks noticed outside the car. Do get a lot of exhaust smoke on startup but it is cold out at present. I cannot tell if smell is sweet, seems to smell like all exhaust smoke?? Loss appears to be about a pint every day or two. Not ging into the overflow either. Just changed hoses, new cast water pump, 160 deg thermostat, new heater core with hoses. Fresh rebuild just recently. Car runs cool. It's a 68 block with 15 heads in a 78 T/A. Have not pulled ALL the plugs, but I guess I may be doing thst next. Thanks for any insight.

How new is the rebuild? Did you re-torque the heads after the cam break-in (assuming it's a hydraulic cam)? It's possible the head gaskets have not sealed properly. By all means, check the plugs. I noticed you didn't want to say it, but its' possible to have a leaking head gasket due to improper gasket seal.

Approx. 2500 miles on rebuild, did not retorque the head bolts after initial breakin. Have not noticed any water/coolant in the oil. Car drives good with no bubbles coming out of the radiator nor do I get any boil-over while driving. Catch can never overfills, just keep losing water?? Also noticed that when the engine cools down it does not suck water out of the catch can??

What should I expect the plugs to look like after 2500 miles if coolant is getting into the cylinder? May just drop the manifolds after a cooldown to see if any coolant is getting into the exhaust, I just can't figure out why unless I have a cracked head or possible some sort of head leak!

I used to run an overflow coolant system a while ago and found that the radiator was forever running dry. After months of exploration I could never find the cause apart from replacing the thermostat and converting the radiator cap to a non-recovery system. To this day the radiator is still full. Very weird to me but its fixed.
