I have a Arma Steel crank. I was told this only came out of a 383. Not a 400 ci engine. Also the automatic
Trans' Torq-converter won't go into it. Any truth to this? Any one know the data on this part 977333 crank? The nine is smaller than the other serial numbers.

I ran into the same problem when I purchased a crank kit for my 70 GTO. The old converter would not go in end of crank. Just had to hog out end of crank with a dye grinder. Stall converter went right in no problems since! 3 yrs ago. Hope this helps Dave K.

I hope you meant 389.I sold a engine that had a 61SD crank in it.The converter would not go into the crank. The buyer had the trans shop cut down the convert snout to fit the crank. Was not a problem.Tom

Ditto on the converter not going in. Just replaced t/c on 400 w/th400 and had to grind the snout also. Was told it was an Arma steel crank.

'69 and '70 RA IV 400 c.i. engines came with an Arma Steel crank. These engines were sold with both standard and auto transmissions, so the torque converter should not be an issue with these cranks. I don't know much about the earlier cranks.

Thanks BLKBRD,
I'm getting info. I need from Pontiac people. Got the crank from a real Firebird nut. A 69 TA Ram III is his latest project. But now I know why he sold the parts. It's not a 389 motor, but a 69 Ram III motor. Thanks a million. Not building a race car. But a car to get were I need to go fast.

Interesting my 409 Chevy has Arma Steel main caps. I think also I have seen a posi carrier that has Arma Steel on it.
