Does anyone out there in 63 Tempest-land have an NOS dash Bezel? if you could post a photo we could all see what is chrome, & what parts are painted. Going by the 15 or 20 cars I have looked at in the past year or so all that I can see that's left in bright accent chrome on the bezel are the 4 rings & the thin raised edges around the turn signal light(oval) & the high-beam indicator.
On all of the original cars I have looked at the rest of the bezel appears to me to be painted silver, (the facing with the lines in it) & then the entire rest of the bezels are all painted the interior color, (the top, lip, sides & edges). Or am I missing something here??

I've heard of people who've had problems with Mr. G's quality and service, but I got a replated dash bezel from them for my '66 F**d pickup truck and was happy with it. Turnaround was fast and it looked very good.

I believe your correct The bezels were all chrome and then painted. Even my 64 bezel is done this way.

The "chroming" process used on these bezels is actually aluminum that is sprayed on in a technique similar to powder coating.
I'm just saying that the ribbed part is also "chromed" not just the top of the rings. Why would they chrome the bezel and then paint silver over the chrome? I am 99.999% that I am correct on this detail. |

I must be a little confused here. Why spend $50 for rings that make the rest of the bezel look like crap. You can get the whole thing rechromed for $120. What do you do about the rest of the faded chrome on that bezel?

Just looked at the 2 63's I have. The cars have the same condition dash. It looks to me like it was a type of chrome that was sprayed on. Doesn't really look like paint, but what else can it be? Did Pontiac have a spray chrome material for dashes?

Would Napa carry the stock mounts for our cars? Auto Zone, Checker, etc.?
I need to buy some locally ASAP. And if you know the part # that would be fantastic. |

I believe those motor mounts are the same as the regular production V8 motor mounts. 1964
GTO motor mounts will do. As far as an instrument cluster Id call Ken Freeman at East/West Auto in Oklahoma. It wont be new. www.littleindians.com has him listed in the middle of the home page.

I don't know. I haven't ordered from them yet. This is from my massive library of parts sources yet to be used.

One of my parts cars is a 63 Hardtop Lemans, the car is about 97% original with 90K on the odometer. The interior color is black. I know that the 1960s era process to get a chrome look to the rings was to chrome the entire part, & then detail mask & paint what they did not want to show off as chrome. On my black car which has never been altered from stock on the inside as far as I can tell, it appears that the background of the dash, where there are a series of parallel lines that all run left to right (behind) the 4 round openings. On all my cars this appears to be factory painted a dull silver color. All my cars appear to have silver paint on top of the chrome in this background area. Any comments from other members on this?

Hi, When I had mine cut for my 2 cars I had the guy make a couple extra sets for me at the same time. I would be hally to sell you a set of 4 rings for $49 postpaid.
I am not trying to get rich off fo this deal, just trying to recover some of my set-up costs to get them measured & made. Thanks, Pete

I think you might be missing something. From old product literature it appears to be chromed. It is a little hard to tell since it is in black and white but you can pretty clearly make out the sparkle.
In addition I have a LeMans from Sacremento. The entire top of the bezel is missing paint from years of baking in the sun. Under the paint is remnants of the original chromed surface. And, plastic plating techniques would make it almost impossible to plate just the top of those rings. Upon even further investigation of this I asked my mother. Yup, my mother. She had a 63 Lemans in 65 and quite clearly remembered it to have a shiny dash. I didn't mean to come off as harsh on you Pete. I was just looking for a clarification. I truly thought I must have been missing something. |

I had some thin metal rings laser cut out of 304 stainless steel the other day, the exact diameter of the raised edge of all 4 circles.
They look great & saves time from pulling the bezel. not for somebody doing al all-out show car, but for a driver they look a lot better than the old faded yellow plastic!

Here is the same bezel with the rings in-place.
I used a little drop of super glue at noon, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock to hold the rings on.
