There are many services out there for background checks. One of which is publicdata.com which also allows you to search a vin. It is not an all inclusive search and only covers the following states:

CO, FL, ID IA, KY, ME, MN, MS, MO, NE, NC OH, OR, TN, TX, UT, WI, WY

I did not find either VINs listed as currently registered. That doesn't necessarily mean they are not around but, like my car, just without a current registration
