If you went by dates the engine was cast after the car was already built. e= softray glass, all L=4spd floor shift g=console p=radio r==rear speaker 4F=outside rear mirror 5N=gto w=deluxe seat belts I'm no numbers expert but thats what it appears to me. The way I understand it, that could very well be correct. Example, if February 28 was on a Monday, that week would be the last week of February. Then the next Monday, March 7, would be the first week of March. Then if the car was built on Friday, March 11, and the engine could have cast on Tuesday the 8th. Very close, but possible.

The motor is locked up the trans is in the trunk, and it's so rough it's a parts car, but it matches completely right down to the plug wires. THe closest part/cast numer is 2 weeks prior to build week. I checked my 66 and it's the same way. One car built in Kansas other in Pontiac Mich. SO i dont know, it sounds too close to me, but anything could happen. LOOK around the site for Einstien, he has helped me, and he is very knowleable on build and trim tag stuff. Mike, I'm almost sure you have the original motor. Just double check the other date codes on the heads to verify.
During the Spring of 65, the Pontiac Michigan plant was on overload. Motors were cast the same week and at times the same day as the trim tag was stamped. I have verified this with five original, 65 GTO’s I have come across including mine. I was skeptical too when I looked at mine a few years back. I have a 4th week in April trim tag date code and an April 28, 1965 (the fifth week of April) engine block cast date. I know I have the original motor because how well the car is documented and the fact that it is verified with the Protect-O-Plate. I started asking around and looking at some of the big shows at original cars to see if I could find others like that. I found 4 other cars with these the same issue, all of them where Pontiac, Michigan cars. The owners were sure they were the original motors. I’m sure you can find some other owners on here with the same issue. Maybe some others on here can post their numbers to see what we get. Keep that motor!!!!!!!
