Picked up the O2 sensor Saturday and spent the rest of the day getting the car scaled, aligned, and the bumpers mounted. Oh yeah, and I took the girlfriend for a QUICK blast around the neighborhood.....

Car is in the paint shop this week.

Then back to the dyno.

Not much time left! Hope all goes as well as it has so far!

Ron,

I heard calibration is very rough at this point and needs to be trimmed in at Norwalk.

Engine did not blow up though!

With a very rough calibration around 500 at the wheels I heard.

Neat deal. Always great to hear the noise of a new engine firing up.

Correct Tom.

The car made 490 HP and 576 ftlbs with no real tuning. I didn't play with the tune up at all, except bump the timing up one degree. I was limited by my own schedule for that day, and only made three pulls.

I figure its down some HP right now, but it pulled smoothly and went all the way up to 6800 RPM without a hicuup.

Hopefully, by Friday night, it'll be fully tuned and ready to go!

Leaving tomorrow, 4AM.

If this is from Goatman's post "Time to play the guessing Game" The winner would be me...

"My guess with that combo is 480 - 505 RW"....

Looks like I was dead on, but then again I knew I would be :-)

Goatman, forgot to ask, this is your combo right?

So many before have asked, I figure, why not?

Gonna take the GTO to the chassis dyno next Wednesday. Guesses at the RWHP?

462ci, Eagle crank, and rods, CP pistons.
E-heads, flowing 300cfm, milled to 64cc's.
Solid roller cam, .660"-.680" lift with 1.6's.
14:1 compression
Victor ported by Wilson Intakes
FAST EFI
2" primary headers
TH400, 4400 stall, 8" converter.

I'm guessing around 530-550 HP. Anyone else?

I know from past posts you stand by the E-head's and cut down factory iron like the 670....but from the dyno session looks like the numbers are pretty low. The compression is out there, non-streetable yet I've seen many pump gas 400's (like some of mine for example) put out more power with factory heads and factory intake manifolds) Wow, a Victor and only 490hp? Maybe you need to invest some more money and fine tune some factory componments rather than go for the WOW look with low performance...But I bet the engine sure LOOKS cool!!!!

Don't forget that's wheel horsepower, since it was on a chassis dyno. That'd probably put his crank HP in the 550 range, maybe higher (depending on the brand of dyno and amount of converter slippage).

Goatman, what was the A/F through the run?

But you're still not gonna race me, right Brad?

When you pay my bills, or better yet beat my OLD cast iron headed time, then you can talk.

Glad you finally figured out what a Victor was....

Jon, the AF was in the 13.1-13.4 range. I would guess there's another 50 hp or so hiding in there. But, with any big converter car, the dyno numbers can sometimes be misleading. Should be fun to see what happens at the track.

I'd be surprised if there was that much HP waiting in the A/F alone. With timing tuning, maybe. What are you shooting for? High 12:1's?

And I totally agree with you on big stall converters making chassis dyno numbers look weird. Track numbers are always a better indication of power than dyno numbers anyway.

Yes, somewhere in the 12:8 range is where I should be. I didn't want to get greedy given my time constraints and not being familiar with the system yet. I will get it sorted out Friday, hopefully.

Air pressure seems to also have a weird effect when using slicks.

At least I know the car will make it down the track without destroying itself now.

Yes, I knew it is RWHP, I won the contest remember?

I don't use Victors on street engines, too much of a good thing. This combo if built by a true engine craftsman should put out way over 490, but then again I knew that and that's why I was way under everyone else's estimate.

Brad, expect a large jump in HP with a correct A/F ratio...
Been there, done that.
