Don't know if this was already mentioned but since the carb isn't stock, maybe the trans kick down cable isn't allowing the trans to downshift.

Take your carb off

Flip it upside down and drain the gas out

look at the front blades from the bottom holding the carb with the back closest to you.

Move the throttle and open the blades and you'll see a vertical slot in each primary bore.

Let the throttle close and see how much slot is left, the bottom of the blade should make the slot look like a little square....if not adjust the idle stop screw until it is.

reinstall on car and make note of the stop screw's position so you know where it should be.

Also while you have it off make sure all your vacuum ports are either connected or caped.

espically the one in the front for the PCV and the one in back for the brake booster.

There should be four ports in all.
