a set of 15" billet repop Rally II and/or Honeycomb wheels?

Most of you know that Wheel Vintiques has brought out a "repop" billet Rally II, but unfortunately only in 17" and 18" rim diameters. I called them last week and inquired about the possibilty of making a set of one-off Rally II's in a 15x8, and some discussion they stated that it could be done for around $500 per. Rather stiff pricing, but only about $75.00 more than their catalog price for a 17x8.

I didn't think to ask them at the time I called, but I'd like to find out if there is enough interest out there, to ask them if they MIGHT offer group purchase pricing on a quantity order. I'm personally interested in six 15x8 wheels with a 4.5" BS.

When I call them back for more info, I'm also going to look into seeing if they might interested in doing a Honeycomb style billet wheel repop. I would imagine that the cost might be MUCH higher due to the inticate design, plus the fact that they haven't done that one yet.

I'd be interested in a set of 15x8s but I think we need the 5x4.75 bolt circle don't we?

Hey Bob:

Yes - 5 on 4 3/4 bolt circle. The 4.5" I mentioned is the backspacing dimension. 4.5" backspacing on an 8" wide rim is zero offset, meaning the backside of the wheel center is exactly centered between the front and rear of the rim. This is the correct dimension to achieve proper fitment on 2nd gen F-bodies and most A-bodies. For example, the OEM 7" wide wheels on these cars had a 4" backspacing dimension, and the OEM 8" wide '78-'81 Firebird wheels had 4.5" backspacing.
As oPh mentioned in his reply to my post on this in the '70-'73 Firebird section, if I indeed go forward on this, I will ask that the wheels be patterned after the '70-'72 14" center 15" Rally II wheels and make certain that OEM caps will fit.

I had a 78 WS6 T/A back in the day and I would swear that the 15"x8" wheel had ZERO offset. Are you sure about the back spacing numbers that you are stating? The 8" portion of the dimension is actually taken at the bead seat area, NOT the total rim width from outside edge to outside edge. I have seen people measure back spacing by laying a straight edge across the backside of the wheel and measure down to the mounting face. Taking that dimension from the listed wheel width would give you an incorrect BS number.

Just want to make sure.

I know this isnt the classified section, but i have a set of 15x8's totally restored with a set of goodyear eagle GT II's 255s, i just took off my 76 TA. Anyone can email me at [email protected]. I honestly dont know wht they are worth. Perhaps someone could tell me a fair price to ask.

Yes, they are ZERO offset. This "backspacing" dimension that everyone uses used to confuse me too! The backspacing IS measured from the rear inner mounting face to the OUTER backside lip of the wheel. This gives a ZERO offset 8" width rim a 4 1/2" backspacing dimension. Apparently, the width of the tire bead lip is exactly 1/2". If one were able to precisely measure from the bead seat to the mounting face, one would get a 4" dimension.

I was pretty sure that was what was going on when measuring. Let me know what you find out about the Billet Rally II's in 15" x 8". I wish the Wheel Vintiques website was just a little bit more informative.

I'm sure the billet would be alot lighter than the original Honeycomb. Man, those things weigh a ton and I can hardly pick one of em up anymore!!
