I just put some Dougs headers on my 4-speed 67 GTO with E-heads. They fit great and the design of these headers is far superior to the hedmans that I was running. The drivers side header is tucked up far enough and positioned to where the exhaust pipe is going to run into the crossmember, the passenger side is fine though. Has anyone else experienced this?

I just installed Doug's roundport headers on my 68 GTO convertible. I would assume the crossover is in the same position on my car. I did not encounter the problem you are mentioning. I did my own installation. I had a cheap set of flowtech headers on my car prior to the Doug's I also had a custom fabricated 3" X pipe that I was using with the old headers. The X pipe did not line up with the doug's headers but it was within about 2". What I did was cut off the 2.5" part of the reducers and cut a 6" section of 3" pipe to weld onto the reducers. I held this in place and cut off each side of the X pipe at the correct length. I held that X pipe in the best position and then tacked the 6" sections of 3" pipe to the reducers. The pipe was installed at a slight angle to get the best positioning. Once I had them tacked I took them out of the car and fully welded them, then used a die grinder to remove any remaining restriction in the reducers. I connected the "modified reducers" to the X pipe using strap clamps. There is a slight angle where the pipes join but this does not create a problem with the strap clamps.
Unless there is something severely wrong with your headers (unlikely since Doug's seems to make very high quality headers) I would think the proceedure I used, or a slight variation of it should work for you. Let me know if you need a better explanation. Good Luck, Joel |

Thanks Joel. I was going to do pretty much what you said. I was just curious if someone else has run into the same issue that I have.

I have ceramic hedman's on my 64 GTO they fit perfect so good you'd swear they snuck into my garage at night and used my car as a template.

Stupid question, but, did you install Dougs headers with the motor in the car ?
Did you have to pop 1 side loose at a time ? Or did they just bolt right on ? I also have a 67 GTO and the motor is just getting ready to be redone. Should I do the headers at the same time? I haven't really put too much thought into the exhaust/ mufflers yet. Mind if I ask how much ? Thanks in advance Rusty 67 GTO

My Doug's Headers are nickle plated, which is the standard finish. It is satin gray/silver color. Does not look like chrome or ceramic coating (at least none that I have seen) Before ordering I did some checking and was told that the nickle is effective at corrosion resistance but would probably turn blue near the heads from the heat. I have only run mine for a few hours and they are already blue there. Too soon to tell about corrosion resistance. Since the nickle is alledged to have good corrosion resistance and I do not have a show car and did not want to pay the extra money for ceramic coating. I figure if they do start to rust/corrode I will send them to be coated later. Sorry no photos.
The instructions indicated that you should raise the motor(one side at at time) to install and that you must install the passenger side first. I found that it was very tight but I was able to fit them in W/O raising the motor on either side. I did raise it on the drivers side to get better access to the center, rear bolt but I think could have done it W/O raising the motor at all. Oil filter access is good. I have not tried it but it looks like I may actually be able to remove and replace the filter from the top. Ground clearance is also good, better than any other 4 tube headers I have seen but they are below the crossmember so they can hit the road. I am hoping that with caution I can keep them from getting bashed. Good ground clearance was the main reason I bought the Doug's headers. |

I bought my Doug's headers unplated. I added the pan-evac nipples in the collectors, then I had them black metallic-ceramic coated. I don't believe I took any pictures of them.

Rusty,
I installed my headers while lowering the motor in. But it looks like you could slide them up into the car with the engine in, you just might scratch the finish in the process. I would say do the headers at the same time, it only took me about an hour and a half to bolt the motor and headers in. As for price, call Pacific Performance Racing, Ken has a very good deal on Dougs headers. |

I missed the price question earlier. I paid $600 + shipping. Mine are Round Ports, don't know, Dport prices are different. Got mine from Ken(Ace)also.
