Im (still) a NOS virgin with a cheater kit to fill out the top end of my stock like -76 Firebird
455 + 030. Block filled to freeze plugs and grinded lifter bores. ARP main studs (no linehone). Clevite bearings. Stock crank 030/020 polished. Scat forged rods. TRW L2359F030 pistons. Moly rings. Summit true roller timing set. 6X ported by myself (mostly bowlwork, evening out and portmatching. No flowchart) Ferrea stainless 2.11/1.66. Comp cams roller tip 1.52 rockers and 995 springs. Edelbrock perf rpm (RAIV) camshaft. Edelbrock Torker II intake. TCI SFI approved flexplate. Hedman headers 1 3/4" - 2x3" exh. Qjet 800cfm vac sec. All rotating parts balanced. MSD 6AL (6000). 3-step retard. RPM switch (3000). Holley black. Fuel pressure switch. 3.42 gears M/T ET street 10.5/26-15. TH350 3000+ stall. Hoping for a high 12 in the 1/4. Mid 11 with 250 NOS? (Ran 13.45/100 last year with a 1.8 60´ with almost none of the above work done.) Now for the question: How is Qjet vac sec working with the cheater system? And if You experienced guys could give me DO´s and DONT´s and tips that arent in the "manual" about using NOS on the street/track? |

Nitrous will work fine with the Q-jet. A plate system will create extra vacuum under the carb, which will help pull fuel out of it by increasing the signal to the boosters. It will actually also help open the secondary airflap quicker, but you shouldn't need to adjust it to slow it down. You'll be throwing so much extra fuel at it with all of the artificial O2 that it won't matter.
Play it safe and pull 2 degrees of timing out for every 50-HP of nitrous. Keep tabs on fuel delivery and pressure (follow NOS guidelines to play it safe). Read the plugs after every run, and if spraying more than 150-175, drop to the next coldest heat range.

OK, thanks! I was hoping for something like that! I was worried about the second it takes to open the secondary flaps, but as You say, NOS gives extra oxygen for that period of time.
Maybe that second will help me and the rotating parts, like a sequentiel (spelling?) power curve? Yes, about the spark plugs, read about burning the tip off. Do you have any field experience with AC Delco R44TS/R43TS depending on amount of spray? |

Wish I could help more on the plugs. I used NGK plugs (8's) up to 200-HP and 9's on anything over that. Keep the gaps tight (between .030"-.035") even if using an HEI.
Check out Ken Keefer's site (Pontiac Dude) at http://www.pontiacdude.cc as he has tips on reading plugs. Perhaps he or someone else can help with the AC plug choice.
