OK - I stopped in this morning to check the progress on my car (photos here). The painter has now 'jambed' the doors, inside of the front fenders etc. and is reassembling the car before final paint. One thing he's done that I'm not sure of is removed both front inner fenders. He plans to put these back in once the car's painted - can this even be done?

Yes it can and in my opinion that is the correct way. When reinstalling the inner wells the bolts on bottom of the fenders will have to be taken out for it to go in.
