I'm putting a GTO hood on my '69 LeMans convertible and was considering chroming the scoop inserts to accent the chrome bumper. Anyone do this? I'd like to see some pictures!
Thanks guys! |

Tillertracker,
Paint them silver, see how you like it, and if so, have them chromed. If not, strip the paint and paint it with the hood or repaint them. A friend of mine has the chrome scoops, they look pretty good. I painted his car a dark blue with silver ralley stripes. -r-

I'm guessing they are made out of the same pot metal as those on a 67-68 Firebird. If this is the case, many years ago I polished a set by stripping the paint, then using 600 grit paper up to 1200 grit paper. This was followed by using a buffing wheel on a bench grinder and finalized with clear coat. They lasted three years without any degrading in brilliance, and looked just like chrome.

No pictures? I'm even starting to fantasize about a chrome spoiler! What do you think?

Hey there..
I was considering the purchase of a 68 Endura-delete GTO before I bought my 69 - I had the same idea of chromed scoops, but had a hard time finding an example. I DID find one or 2 pics of a convertible in Washington state that had chromed scoops. They weren't great pics, but it gave you the idea and I thought they looked pretty cool. I think they were at ultimateGTO.com - I'll see if I can find them again... Chris
