I just got the new 3.73 (was 3.31) rear in my bird and was doing some on ramp testing last night, I should of called it quits after one test but I had to do it one more time. Blame my inexperience, (I'll blame the shifter) regardless I hit neutral when I wanted second and she banged on the 7000 rpm pill and she gave up the ghost. I shut it down immediately and towed it home, Keep your fingers crossed it's just a bearing clanging around in there. I'll keep you posted on what failed when I get it apart. The good news, the 3.73's seemed to make a world of difference!

Cheap bet that a pushrod or rocker arm gave up.
I'm miffed at why the 68 Dual-Gate & 69 GM Ratchet reach Neutral while going for 2nd. I'm convinced that "adjustment for Cable stretch" is not the issue. Soooo, I think the Shifters need close attention to an internal offset, to achieve the best feel. Hey, I went column-shift based on your gripe! HIS

Been there, done that. I'm not sure what RPM I was at, I was pulling a hole shot trying to impress a girl, missed 3rd, and flew right to N. I ended up breaking #8 rocker arm stud, and breaking and bending the exhaust and intake pushrods on #8 also. Luckily I was able to find all the pieces. It had the stock bottleneck studs anyhoo, so I just upgraded to the 7/16" straight studs.
Here's to hoping that's the only problem. Brandon |

I thought with automatics, the object was to have your right hand occupied by other things than using the shifter?

Baseline inspection shows no broken rockers, valve springs look good and everything moves freely. I need to finish getting the engine out so I can check the bearings. I'll keep you posted. The "car craft spring break anti tour" is on the 19th of March, a six hour drive with drags in phoenix, I WANT to be there so BAD!!!
Thanks for your support. I bought a nitrous setup too, still in the box. LOL |

LOL, I hadn't gotten to that point with her yet John. I figured a nice, black, smokey burnout would seal the deal........it did.
Luckily, I was next to the house when it happened. I played off the knocking noise as something minor. |
