Has anyone tried to reupholster their own bucket seats and rear seat for 67 GTO? I'm having a hard time finding someone and it doesn't seem like it should be hard. Any advice? Thanks.

I rebuilt my 67 GTO buckets a few years ago, installed new springs, added more side support, all new materials, including seperator wire, new bonded cotton batting, etc. Not hard at all, just take your time and work in a warm area so the vinyl will stretch easier. Pull evenly to avoid wrinkles, work the material. Big difference before & after.

Patience is NOT my strong point, but I would like to try this. The seat kits are a LOT less than a quote from a local shop last week for redoing front buckets. Two shops have told me the kits don't fit right, so they spend hours test-fitting then removing to add / trim the foam. Is it really this bad??

I dunno YET.
Every factory bucket and bench has appeared excellent. I have seen a couple crappy re-upholstery jobs in car shows. Unsmooth, bunched padding would be the visual fit issue.

I hope to re-use the old padding, and hope for post install shrinkage.

I have done many a complete interior resto`s, and i usually use PUI repro seatcovers, when done they look like brand new! I`ve done quite a few of the 70 gto`s ( now thats hard because of the inserts that must be put in!!) Important thing is to make sure that your seat foam, and springs ect.. is good, just look at it carefully as you take one apart, leaving the other seat intact for reference while you do the first seat, patience and a good pair of hogring pliers a must!!

Im getting ready to have my seats redone. I am having a buddy at the local shop redo them. Im having a custom fabric done in the original pattern. I don't think they make repro covers for my car anyways.

Give me a thumbs up, tell me "Nice Car!", but for god's sake, don't call it an Impala.

as stated above, be prepared to use extra padding in some areas. big help is to lay the covers out in the sun on a warm day, this makes the material so much easier to work with...."mean"

There is a place buy me that said they would do my fronts for $130 if I had the covers. I think I will do this and save myself the worries of screwing something up.
