I don't see the key either in the pic. It looks like it might be straight down. If that is the case, then the key should be pointed at TDC of #1 cyl. to #1 cyl. Set the chain up that way and try again.

ok........check ou the next two pics, note the keyway positions on cam and crank at TDC on #1 as it relates to the dot position. This should clear it up
