Hi everyone, I have a quick question; does anyone know where I can get either NOS or reproduction "black hobnail" seat cover material for a 79' Trans-Am? I have a 79 but the drivers seat could use an overhaul, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I saw on TransAmCountry.com that PUI is either doing - or planning - reproduction hobnail.

The repo stuff from SMS is close. The original material has raised center dots. The repo is of different material. Request a sample from SMS.

Does SMS make the covers or just provide the material???
Thanks

They just supply the material. If I remember correctly, it was $79/yd for the hobnail and $69/yd for the solid color. They will send a sample.

hey all, thanks for the help! I contacted SMS and they sent me a sample of the hobnail cloth and I must say that it's a great match. the only problem is the price $120/yd. that's not including the lombardy cloth that you would need for the outer sections of the seats and to have an upholstery shop sew it all together for you. I think for now I'm just going to get som nice black sheep skin seat covers. If anyone knows of a shop that has the seat covers already assembled and just needing to be installed with hog rings, please let me know. Thanks.

wow!!!!
The price shot up. Maybe, the hob is real hobnail and not the flat repo. The sample I got in red was not $120yd. |

I just bought some black hobnail cloth from SMS. I'm thrilled with the quality. Its every bit as good as the original. I also have seen the cloth material on the PUI seats and in my opinion its crap.
SMS are not cheap but you get what you pay for. |

Hey guys,
PUI is now reproducing those seat covers. They have the material in Carmine & Light Blue that they can make now. It is about 4 weeks for them to do them. They will have black sometime early in 2006. The front buckets are $309.00 for the pair and the rear seats are $219.00. Our part #'s are: RFI38H for the fronts and RFI38RH for the rears. Ed |

Wow, that is even better pricing than getting the raw material. Do you know if these covers have the Lombardy material on the side? Also do they have the "piping" between the material. I guess I will wait a few months before getting mine redone. I need black.
Thanks for the updates. |

You might also try Fryers Auto Upholstery Kits. They are top notch!
