I want to install lexan side glass in my 72 GTO.I know to use metal brackets
to attach glass to door panel for strength.With these brackets will I get the
proper curve and fit when using flat sheet stock ? Or is after market glass
availible that I can afford?

If I have time, I plan to do lexan side windows as well. I was just going to use flat sheet to do it...doesn't seem to have a lot of curve. I think if you are careful making the frame that it would be fine. I'm interested to see what others have done...or at least what they have to say about it.

You will need to build a frame (usually some round tubing) around the outside of the window about 1 1/2 inches in from the edge of the window. It can be bent to the contour that you need. the run 2 braces from the frame to the door and that will help keep shape.

Jim...do you know of a good supplier for mark/scratch resistant (marguard?) lexan? Reasonable pricing would be nice as well! Thanks

I think HP1 Lexan is used for racecar windows , and it is coated , BUT every time you" handle " it , it will get scratches in it . I wish i could get some through work but we don't make it up here . My racer buddy said he pays about a grand canadian per sheet . I can get the regular clear polish for $10.00 per sheet . I do work for GE. mike. What gauge do you use for a racecar ? mike.

I used the window frames, for my application*, from Jerry Bickel.
*The only Pontiacs listed in thier catalog are Firebirds but I used the kit for the 64-70 Chevelle. In your case, you could use the one for the 70-82 Malibu.

I did my front and side windows with 1/8 inch flat lexan from local plastic place, back window was $400.00 Bickle, no difference in cutting/drilling.

I used 1/8" scratch resistant Lexan. I bought two 4X8 sheets for around $150 a sheet. Jim was correct about using the tubing (I used 1/4" solid rod) and I attached mine with the 1/4" plastic wire loom clamps used for holding electric wiring in place. I traced my original glass windows onto the Lexan (leave the paper on!) and cut them out. After I attached the 1/4" rod to the doors, I attached the Lexan to the rod with small SS machne screws. Then you can use the two rods to pull down the top of the Lexan to conform to the shape you want to get.

A trick I used on my front and rear windows was to paint the outside edge (about 1-1/2") of the window with black spray paint on the inside before applying the silicone sealer. That way, the paint covered the ugly silicone smear when the windows are screwed down (or pop riveted).
