I do not believe that there is any one piece that is best to remove before another. You need to get a trim removeal tool and slide it between the glass and the trim. I suggest placing a wash cloth or other protection under the tool to save your glass from scratches. Move the tool around until you find a clip they are every 6-8" or so. Get the tool to hook behind the clip and pull gently towards the center of the window. At the same time apply a little lifting pressure under the trim. This will unhook the trim from the clip. Continue this for every clip until the trim can be removed.

Check your repair area and fix as needed.

To reinstall the trim, have all of the clips in place. These are available new at most paint supply stores. They are inexpensive and usually justify replacement. The trim will need to be joined together as you go or at least before an entire piece is completly installed. They simply snap in place behind the clips. reinstall is usually pretty easy. Make sure you have a helping hand to keep that paint in good shape!

Thanks for the help! I was unsure of which direction to put pressure on the tool{towards the center of window}. Also the bottom moulding is very tight to the trunk panel and the window and I cant seem to create any gap that would allow the tool to slip under the moulding. There was caulk all around the moulding and I suspect that maybe some super glue was used also. I just need to go slow and not damage the paint or glass. Does the rear window need to come out to install new clips?

You should not have to remove the window to install new clips unless....

Well, a couple things can happen. There are rubber blocks set under the lower edge of the window. I have seen these move out of location which allows the window to slide on the buytl. This would make the window too close to the lower edge of the opening to allow you to install new clips. In this case you would need to remove/reinstall the window. Also, depending on the severity of the rust in the window channel, some of the posts that the clips mount to can be rusted completely off of the car. There are threaded replacement studs that can be used. Either way you repair this, if you do replace the suds, the window need to be removed. Also, I would thank that in most cases the window should be removed to correctly repair rust in this area.

Will the removal technique apply to the side windows and vent windows also? I need to replace all the side window trim on my 66 GTO
