Ram air hood repair
Just picked up a ram air hood for my 70 Bird the vent fingers are broken and some missing the left corner is cracked but not broken off what is the easiest/best repair.....Thanks

I would thing the easiest thing for the fingers would be to cut the whole section out of another hood and butt weld it into that one. I'm not sure about the corner. I can't really tell from the pic.

you could lay a fiberglass mat on the back side coat it with resin an let it cure. This would strengthen the strips. Then take a dremel bit and carefully cut out the open areas. Thats how i would go about it.

If you're interested in doing some intricate welding, I have 2 GTO hoods that are solid in that area. It would require shortening the ribs as it looks like the birds are shorter as well each Goat hood has 18 ribs so it would give you something to work with. If you're interested PM me.

I have a very nice Formula hood . Its difficult to repair the vent area on those hoods , thats a common problem. 68droptop if you figure out how to weld fiberglass to steel please let me know also

I have seen a hood were they filled the hole area in.....

CNC, I'm located on Ridout and Tecumseh, just moved to London bout 6 months ago. Didn't realise the hood was glass, sorry. With with some fiberglass matting and resin, some careful layout and some quality time with a dremel and you should be in good shape. Matting and resin available from Crappy Tire. Be interested in seeing the car sometime. Gonna be at Wortley Village this summer?

I have a 71 formula. It had the sme problem. I filled the whole area in and it looks good. Also found it much easier to sand and paint. I think it actually looks better without the vents. Plus I don't have to worry about them being broken again. I think you would find that filling the section in will be a lot more practical if you want to use that hood.
