Default How much paint?

I am almost ready to paint my 78 TA, and am unsure about how much paint I should get. Car will be black, and I am using PPG OMni BC/CC. Primer is done and ready to be blocked, but I really have no idea about how much paint to get. I am guessing at a gallon of base and 2 of clear. I will be doing the firewall and cowl in the same paint. Any info would be great. Thanks alot.

Terry

I attempted the first paint on my car and f'ed it up bad enough I sanded it back down and hired someone to paint it. I could have done it right the first time with a better gun and booth and more paint. But like you, I thought 1 gallon was enough but it wasn't, and my paint shop wasn't open on Sunday when I needed more paint. So I leave you with this word of advice. Make sure your equipment is ready (really ready) and have more than enough paint. If you think 1 gal of base will do, get 1.5. Just my 2 cents.

Enjoy. Post some pics when your done.

it depends on what spray gun you are using. Seriously, that is an important thing. There is so much waste. I just painted my '70 Firebird and used slightly less than 3 quarts. So what gun are you using?

I am using an Astro gun, an EVO if I remember right. I am painting the car in sections, so I think I'll start with a gallon of base and go from there. Hopefully it will be enough to get the firewall and cowl done, and maybe have enough left to do the inners.

with an hvlp gun 2 qts will paint your average car reduced it makes a gallon to spray but with extra parts and painting in pieces I would buy a gallon then givng touch up, because every mix isn't perfect try to buy all paint at the same time and paint everything at the same time so you don't get panel to panel mismatch in color
