Very useful info Ghost, thanks a lot. I've got plenty to go on now. By the way, I've also got a wreaked '81 T/A that I'm considering swapping out the whole rear end with the '78 so it will have rear disc brakes. Do you see any unforseen pitfalls with that?

Nope, that is a great swap. Just keep in mind that you will need to swap the Master Cylinder, and the proportioning valve to ensure proper function. If you've got the old car, just take everything brake related and put it on your car and you should be all set.
The Master Cylinder for the Disc/Drum setup and the proportioning valve are different than the Disc/Disc setup. In fact, you might even use the hard lines from the '81 to connect the M/C to the Proportioning valve and the rear hard lines.
