I have two different styles of center caps for my snowflake wheels and don't know which is correct for a '79 T/A. I have round and segmented. Which is correct? Thanks.

The round metal ones are correct for snowflakes.

77-79 Snowflakes used the round stainless caps & 80-81 used the plastic hex.

The round stainless ones are still available from your local GM dealer parts dept.,but are EXPENSIVE & you need to purchase the ornament (bird emblem) as a separate part.
A set of four reproduction hex chrome plastic caps WITH ornaments can be had on E-bay for around 65.00.(make sure you get the GM Restoration parts ones with the METAL retainer cage in them) They are NOT correct for your year, but will still look good & you can't go wrong for the price. |

I have 3 NOS metal caps and looking for one more. Also have 4 of the plastic caps w/gold bird, New GM Restoration, that I don't really need.

I have 4 used round ones that came off a 1978 TA with 15X8 snowflakes. At least one is noticably dented. I'll have to scrounge up some pics.
I would trade them all for a set of 4 plastic ones without the bird. I would prefer arrowheads. The ones I have will need new medallion/center decoration discs/whatever they're called. Last edited by bastard; 09-25-2006 at 10:10 PM. |

My car had the metel caps, originally, but I remember that they didn't stay on the wheel very well, and I was always having to replace one, every so often.
And if they would stay on, they never really stayed true to the wheel. That's why I ended up putting the plastic/hex caps on, with the metal cage inside of them. They stay on now, and look good, because they stay tight against the surface of the wheel. And as a note of interest for those of you that didn't know, the plastic/hex caps WERE used in the 1979 model year, but only on the 10th Ann., Turbo wheels. Leon.
