The "Badest of the Bad" in my mind was "Big Red".
This car was a car capable of running over 200 mph for an extended period of time safely. He destroyed the "players" at the Silver State race. This is the road race in the desert. Your can have "Trailer Queens" "Rairway Queens" etc but I really like the "Kings of the Road" like Big Red. At one time there was a Ford Mustang like Big Red driven by a guy with the initials REV many years ago that was a distance runner too. Tom V

The car was banned from the Silver State. All the "big money players" with Ferrarri's and the like that were in the unlimited class whined and cried when Gottlieb's average speed was higher than 196 I think...a full 10 miles per hour faster than the next closest car. I think "Big Red" was only allowed to run the Silver State twice before they banned it.

Just like Max Balchowski when he drove old yeller, a car he built & outran Ferraris, Jags, etc in the old days. They tried to ban him. I wonder why they banned that Gottlieb 69 Camaro ? Politics ?

Of course it was politics!! And a few high end advertising agencies. I did some promotional work though a temp service during the year that Big Red got banned. It was an embarassment to the highend latest fad crowd, so it had to go.
