The reason for the light rule is so they can justify keeping the slow down and return roads too dark and not put up the lights that should be in place for the tracks. It's called passing the buck and responsibility to the racer instead of where it belongs.

Took all of 5 minuets to tie DS tail light to fuel pump relay in the trunk. It comes ON when the fuel pump is ativated. If you're anal about tail light being on in the daylight...just unplug tail light from relay wire..NO BIG DEAL. If you have a driver car.....just plug it back in wiring harness when done racing..
At any rate...it's one more thing I don't have to worry about when I'm straped in and can't reach the headlight switch...then what ??

So when are the tracks or nhra going to require the tracks to be lit in the slow down areas and return roads? Anyone? They have yet to return an email when I've asked them.

At some tracks I have been to I wonder what the rails and other fast rides do after the finish line...with no headlights ??? I'm just merely saying it ain't no big deal to comply...what the devil is 5 minuets. While we're on the subject. Seems to me the tracks ought to have a "eye" on the turn off to make sure the cars are clear.....the tower is a LONG way away..

boosted1, what div was that for? (5?) NHRA ?
Div 3 NHRA requires it to be on all the time, day or night.

I've raced on outlaw tracks that are better lit than nhra tracks after finishline and on return roads. So it could be done. My personnal opinion is this rule is an excuse to keep from accepting any responsibility for conditions at the track. I can promise you that if they were concerned about seeing all of the track, and shutdown areas, the tower would be moved to mid track instead of at the starting line or behind the burnout box so the smoke always blocks their view.
