In the article, the only times that are noted are the following:

8.80 @ 154MPH at Pomona
5.57 @ 130MPH in the 1/8th mile at Barona Antique Drags

To my knowledge, there are quite a few quicker and faster Pontiacs than that.

I certainly don't want to take away from the accomplishments of this car and his devotion to the Pontiac V8. That is one thing that the article makes abundantly clear is his devotion to the Pontiac V8. I certainly admire that. I've also spoken with Bill Taylor and his crew...great bunch of guys. We hope to see him right along with us at the drags with a Pontiac!

Set 'em straight! But you know...when they said "world's quickest blown fuel Pontiac", maybe they meant quickest to BLOW UP? I mean, the car only made it 20 feet before it "sh!t the bed".

For the record, before Steve Barcak came along, the last guy to campaign a blown fuel Pontiac was Raymond Walker, sometime in the '75-'78 timeframe, with his 421 powered "Sunshine" Vega funny car. It ran a factory block (of course) with a '990 crank and iron heads. He was mostly a low budget BB/FC (blown alcohol) racer that ran Division 3 and various match races throughout the south and midwest...but he was known to tip the can on occasion. The only performance info I could find on him was when he ran alcohol...his best time is listed as a 7.205 @ 200.44 MPH. He was a D.I. at Fort Knox at the time. I've tried to track him down but have had no luck.

Paul Spotts has run Nitro in the high 7's with his digger and used a stock block (I think) although it probably was a small %.
He's ran low 7's without the Nitro now, but may be an aftermarket block.

I think Paul is still running the factory block with the station wagon heads. Having a car that only weighs 1800 with him in it helps.

That car was at the POCI meet and I personally watched it run high 8s at 160 mph. It's the real deal. In fact, we will be running it in an upcoming HPP shootout.

He does run a billet crank now too. He is close to 1000 flywheel HP.

I know the last few times I saw him run he was pulling some good MPH. If he can get that thing to launch hard without flipping over backwards, he's got enough MPH I think for a sub 7 second ET. But you know the neatest thing about Paul's digger? He can make more than one pass in a weekend without engine carnage.

Paul was pitted next to us last Norwalk.
Probly the nicest racer i ever met.
Only time he touched the digger all weekend was to back it in and out of his pit area.
He seemed impressed that i could put up with Ray.
Told him i was used to being around chevy guys...

We ran 10% several times with a IA block and a cast crank. It would pick the car up about 2 10ths in the 1/8th. I just talked to Brandan and he said that we ran as much as 25%. He says the car would have run quicker but that we had know idea what we were doing with timeing and jetting. Said we were lucky we didn't scatter it!

I raced chevys for 18 years. Trust me don't put him in that same catagory. All the chevy guys I dealt with WERE honest.

Jack, by the words (or lack of) from the person that started this thread, I assumed it was in a rail as well...turns out it was a door car.

Here's another interesting question. What track was he allowed to tip 80% into his tank and make a pass? Nitromethane requires a SPF (special fuel license) for the driver in order to use it, regardless of what ET you're running. I'm sure the car didn't have the requesite safety gear on it either that is also required for nitro' use (regardless of ET). I'm wondering if track tech officials were even aware?

The intensity of tech inspection varies widely. Some tracks are just interested in inspecting your entry fee.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are tech inspectors who will do everything short of sonic-testing your license plate bracket.
