I remember seeing a date stamped (with an ink stamp) on the backside of the speedometer on some GM cars of the 50's. Might have been a Buick or Chevy. You might want to check there on your Pontiac. I wuold assume that it was the assemby date and was probably there for warranty purposes.
Most of the castings on Pontiacs from the mid thirties up have the date that the casting was poured on it. Generally speaking, most castings were used in a fully assembled car with in two weeks to a month of the pouring date. The date is coded as follows, Month is a letter A= jan. B=feb. etc. followed by day followed last digit of year. I.E. D 18 7 = April 18 1957.
