Hey Guys, I am about to put some new wheels on my 68 GTO convertible, and I would like your input. Tell what you like and if possible post a pic of your car with the wheels you like. Also I want to make sure I am right with this, I think the wheels should 5x4.75 with 4.5 in backspacing. I want to use a 15x8 wheel. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Also, I have heard of websites that you could post a pic of your car and change the wheels to get a good look as to what it would look like.
Thanks BB |

I'm running 15x8 Weld Prostars with 4.5" BS on a 68 hardtop. The tires are 28x11.5x15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros. they have a 11.2" section width,10" tread and are 28" tall. They fit without rubbing but if I had to do it again I'd probably go with 5" backspace since the outside of the tire is very close to the wheel opening on the quarter and there is at least 1" of extra clearence at the inner wheelwell.

I have a 68 conv. also and I (and most other lookers) really like the Centerline pro stock Wheels. I have the most BS you can get from this wheel which is about 4.5. I still have 1" or more on the inside and "real" close to the fender. I use 275-50-15s. 12 " inches of tire is all I can get under the well without cutting. The wheels are 8.5. Sorry I dont have any pics right now.

TCS and naughty,
Thanks for the info I have draglites on it now. The rear is a 15x10 in. wheel and I want to go to a 15x8 or 8.5. I plan to run 275x60 on all 4 if I can. I talked to Summit and all they offer in the draglite is 4.5 or 5.5 back spacing. With a 60 series tire do you think it would clear? Now I have the wrong back spacing so I have to pick the rear up with springs to keep it off the tires. Thanks for the info. BB |

I run 285/40/R18 on a 10" Torque Thrust II with a 6.5 backspacing on a 12 bolt out of a 72 GP. Leaves about 1" on either side.

running 17" american racing polished torq thrust IIs on my 68 Convertible and get lots of compliments. Width 8" / BS 4.75". I'll have to double check the tire size, but I think I have 235/45s. They fit perfectly. You could do the same style in a 15"... should only have to change the tire size to get the correct overall height
Here's a pic... |

Thanks guys, It looks as if I will be going with at least 4.5 back spacing. I do like the draglites and centerlines.
mcduck, can you put the tire inside your wheel well? I noticed that it appears to sitting up. I know you have the 17's on it, but I would like to lower mine so part of the tire is completely inside the well. Baw"d, did you have to do much modifing to put that 72 12 bolt in your goat? PM sent |

Hi,
I had Cragar SS 15x7 on my 68 GTO before putting on 15x7 Rally II wheels. Tires are BFG 225 or 215-65-15s. CRS has set in on the tire width. Mike
