My car is in pieces in my garage and it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Right now I'm pouring money into it and I've got a garage full of parts. When I got the car it was running atleast and was able to take it for a spin around the block when ever I wanted. I parked it to fix an over heating problem and it's sat there ever since. I'm hoping it will be ready to run this summer but I've also prepared myself if I don't get it on the road til the following summer. My car is the poster child for budget build but it seems like I hold out a little longer to get the better part that it needs. How long did you guys wait to finally get your car on the road and driving fast? Maybe I'm having the winter blues, is any one else???????

Mines been in the garage for approx 8 years, with work started approx 3 years ago. Hope to drive this year, but will be in multi colour option. Car has been off road for 25 years.

3 or 4 years working only casually on it, collecting parts, etc. Then - I did a little about every other night and weekend night for the last 3 solid. Did a lot of stuff twice...

Wow, looks like there might be hope yet. Mine's been down going on three years now, and nothing's finished yet - well the quarter panels are on. Hopefully I'll get to drive it again before I retire, lol.

Oh, man! When I first bought my car, it was pretty much a SHELL!! It didn't even have a steering wheel (Someone had a pair of visegrips locked down on the steering shaft so you could turn the wheels of the car as you pushed it where you wanted when moving it from spot to spot). No engine, no tranny, no interior and the wiring in the dash looked like a rats nest (Actually did find a rats nest in the car with baby rats included). My dad just shook his head as I had it towed into the driveway. lol... I "Half @55ed" did the interior and bodywork enough to make it driveable, took out a running 455 I had in another car and was lowering the engine in when the chain snapped! Dropped the 455 on the front of the car and busted the back of the block. This was the first year I had my car by the way. I searched all over the place locally for another 455 with no luck, but did find an old 72' Catalina with a virgin 400, so I bought the car for $100 cash, yanked the engine and tranny and gave the body away. I guess I spent another year or two buying parts to build the engine. I took the engine to a local "Builder" to have it assembled. I fired it up, broke in the cam and it ate every bearing in the engine after about 30 minutes of run time (Still never drove it, just watched it sit there in the driveway and destroy itself). About another year or so later I built it myself and it stayed together this time. I think it was about 3-4 years total from the time I bought the car before I FINALLY got to drive it for the first time (Then I figured out the brakes needed fixed)

Bought the car in 93 and replaced the rear axle, brakes and tires before I figured out the white residue on top of the motor was fire extingusher agent ...started tearing down the car in 98 and only recently got the body back in primer and the motor redun...so umm yeah a long time.
Of course I had to build on a garage/workshop to the house in order to have some place in the dry to play with it.

5 years and my car has seen 3 motors, three transmissions, two rear ends and has had the frame out twice between being driven about 15 miles. Mechanically, my car is finally as good as new. Body work now.

Going on 5 years this month. I dissasembled the car after highschool, and have been slowly working on it ever since. Just bought paint, and most of the body work is done, so hope to have it all painted within 2 weeks or so. Then comes putting the engine in, and finding a good tranny.

I bought my 1967 LeMans comnvertible in 1989 and I hope to fire it next week for the first time. And then, I will drive the car down the road. Me, in the car. Driving. Down the road. In my 67 convertible. With the top down. Driving it. Driving it. Somebody slap me. Driving it for the first time since 1989. Driving in the car, while it is moving down the road. Not driving it while it is standing still with no motor, but down the road, making noise, with the engine on.

3 years to the week between carcas purchase tooooo Inspection & Driving to work. Frame-replace, engine build, TH400 build, Glass-install, Re-wire to my liking, interior build, Vinyl-Top build, $$$$ out for paint. then the trimmings.

Been driving it nearly DAILY since.

I towed my Toronado home 8 or 10 years ago. Long enough ago that I've actually lost track of when I bought it.

I "think" I will drive it for the first time this coming Sunday or Monday. The lights work, (but not the hideway mechanism) the brakes work, the tranny has gears, the engine runs--all I have to do is connect the fuel cell to the rest of the fuel plumbing, and drive it to the alignment shop. The last of the parts to do that were supposed to be here Friday--but the shipment was delayed due to bad weather.

Depends on the car as to how long it took and how long its been. I kept the 70 GTO running for a long time, the body is rougher now so its off the road but fully drivable. The 72 GTO hasnt moved in almost ten years, it should be in the shop in 08 or 09. The 10th Anniversary TA hasnt moved since 1988, so its nearly 20 years for that one. The Cougar is in the shop right now, it sat for 20 years before I could get back to it. Should be done sometime this year provided the money holds out. The rest, well they will get running in due time, but one thing is for sure, its a lot better having a hotrod than not having one. So I almost always have something drivable even if it isnt legal..

Taking donations for the resurrection of all my 'junk' and nothing of value moves during the salty winter road season. Anyone care to donate a 60'x100' building with concrete?

My car was last tagged and running in april of 91. I bought it 6 years ago and its still not tagged for the road although about two years ago i drove it for about a month on fake tags. Its been on blokes in a garage almost all of that time
