If you have an understanding of how Stock and Super Stock works, you undoubtedly know that fast is a very relative term. It depends on rated engine horsepower and car weight. (see below) This is how NHRA derives the index system. The attempt is to equalize cars relative to original engine HP and car weight.

Secondly, it depends on what kind of air as was a major topic of this thread. I have always been a proponent of correcting all runs to sea level to show relevance. As we have demonstrated, a run in Abilene verses a run at Gainesville with the same engine in the same car can be quite different. I have never run in air better than 2500 feet corrected. Taking my car to a track with air 1000 feet below sea level will be a much different experience.

Kenny Shaver's car is irrefutably the fastest D-port. Steve Smith, Carrol Warling, Billy Ingles, and Phil Monteith/Peter Biondo are very close. (Kenny's run below was about 121MPH, and the car normally runs about 127)

Round port engines I would say Don Kennedy with his 1.1 under performance just a few months ago.

I have good understanding of the class, I'm amazed by the performance levels that are achieved. I know it's all based on the engine factors by NHRA. So the question is, who is making the most HP with a D-port and a R-port and how much is it? Has anyone had any luck with the 1970 455 HO or is the factor just too high in comparision to the high compression 428?
