Hey guys:
I fianlly got the time and the $$$$ to start working on my firebird again.
I purchased a set oif Headman Headers and would like to know:
1) What are the torque specs for the header bolts?
2) Should I use locktite on those same bolts?
3) Should there be any sort of additional gasket coating applied to the header gasket before installing?
4) Lastly, it looks like the actual surface on the header itself is not 100% smooth. There seems to be sort of an extension past the surface from the tubes itself. Is that ok? Should they be ground smooth, so gasket sits flush?
Is this a manufacturer defect, or is it designed that way properly?

Hi Chris, I just sent back a set of hedmans and got a set of dougs. for my 69 firebird. What a differance on the pass side. the hedmans make you change to a small oil filter were the dougs and a butler oil filter adaptor fit a pf 24 oil filter fine with no problems. Also dougs recomend using ultra copper silicon on the sirface and include a lock style washer. Dougs are a much beter header and butler has every thing you need

I strongly remflex gaskets they are about 1/4" thick and crush down when the header studs/bolts are tightened. I have them on my Camero and Firebird and they are great. See www.remflex.com.
Torque? couldn't get torque wrench on several fastners so I just tighted with a wrench tight drove for bit and check the tightness, never had a problem or any leaks. I highly recommend them!
