yes the can be replaced with the transmission in the car. you just go underneath pull the shift rod out replace the bushing and put it back in.

AFAIK, those hurst pit packs often do not fit our stock OEM hurst shifters.
(You didn't mention what kind of car you have or if the shifter is OEM or not. I have a 1970 GTO with OEM shifter and those pit packs do not work with this setup at least - The pit packs are for the aftermarket shifters).

Also, you might want to realign the shifter while you are at it. There's a hole through all the shift "paddles" (don't know what to call them) - under the car... You stick a drill bit or something through all of them when shifter is in neutral, then adjust shift rod length to line up well when the trans is also in the neutral position (no pressure on any rod/drill bit).

Then remove the drill bit.

p.s. - You also could have something as simple as bolts coming loose... Make sure the shifter is well bolted to the trans, and all the shift levers coming off the trans are well secured.

Thanks a bunch. Its a 67 GTO w/console and I beleive the shifter is OEM. I'll take a look tonight and see whats out of whack.
