yes, im talking about just running a duct from the firewall to a hat/box on the carb
or bring it in from the grill
im trying to stay away from the scoop on the hood deal.

Yardbird, in about 1966 a friend, who built hot air heating systems, made a hat, like you described, for my dual quad 389 that was ducted from the heater inlet housing in my 63 LeMans. With no other changes, I went from a 12.14 to 11.71.

Jim Hand has been doing it for years. Air cleaner to firewall cowl duct. His is homemade by adding a second hose duct to a stock aircleaner and two hoses to the holes in firewall. I just read an article on a restored 63 Z-11. Air cleaner to cowl from the factory. RamAir something or other company has been selling air cleaners for years that have two 4" duct openings to go forwards or backwards. Not sure if an air cleaner element goes in it or its just a huge carb hat. The difference in ambient air and underhood air can be well over a hundred degrees.

Fab'd a semi enclosed air cleaner to cowl panel and TA shaker scoop(attached to hood) on my 68 FB.
Lower pan and sides extend to opening in cowl.
No top, but with weatherstripping, it should seal 95% to cowl and hood.
The windshield is out(stripping/patching/repainting), so i dont know how effective it is yet.
Will have pic's as soon as i get someone over to fix home computer
