patrick, out of curiosity, did you find a vin stamped in the frame or had it rusted away? if you did restamp the new frame in the same location after cleaning it up. it'll save a lot of hassle if the car ever gets inspected.

Mike,

I think I have read that the VINs did not start getting put on frames & blocks on Pontiacs until 1967 even though the law went into effect in '66.

I did determine that it is an A O smith frame and not a parish. Has 2 holes by the steering box not one.

may or may not have been law but my 57 international has the vin on the frame.

i just sold a buddy a 41 plymouth and it had an engine tag, body tag and a tag on the frame that was unreadable.

They did put the VIN on the block for a while in the early 60s, although I don't recall the exact years. My '61 has the VIN stamped on the block. Don't know about the frames.

So I will just keep the original frame. I do not know how or where to store but will find something. Just like moms gto as long as I am alive neither her gto nor my 2+2 will ever be sold.

Default selling with a different frame

Mike
I called my freind at the State Police as well. I was sent to the BMV. Everything is fine. The body has the correct tags. All the BMV said was to keep the title from the doner car.

Just an update. Has been real slow getting the frame from the parts car. Many thanks to Steve at Indiana Pontiacs and Mike Nixon for helping. It was a cold misty day. But a fun day. Redi strip called today and I will pick it up on Monday.

It is very very nice. Only one very small 2-3mm hole that needs plugged. The cross member brackets need to be straightened just little.

One thing I noticed the front sway bar off the Grand Prix is 5/8th and my 2+2 is 3/4.? Visually looking I did not measure.

Heavier sway bar part of the heavy duty suspension. (your thoughts Mike.)

Core support came out very nice as well. One small patch under the battery tray and it will be excellant.

I will post some pictures Monday Night.

Patrick
