Not sure on the trans number but the body (4th week of January, 1966) and the block (January 17, 1966) line up. My guess is this is a Pontiac MI assembled car?

All motors were suppose to be cast in Pontiac MI foundry and then shipped to the various assembly plants. Believe it or not, even back in 66, they were efficient enough to cast an engine and get out to California within a week or two to be installed in a car.

The Pontiac built 65 GTO I have had it’s motor cast and car built in the same week.

Isn't the only way you can match the engine to a GM car of this era with the protecto plate?

I have the protecto plate for my '67 and I bought it from the original owner with all the documentation including the original sales contract , but 2 of the numbers on the block are transposed. he assured me it was the original engine and I believe it, but I'm not sure anyone else will if I go to sell it but I don't intend to anyway. are messed up numbers like this ever accepted by hardcore collectors?

I don't know but to my way of thinking, there would be better ways to fake a matching numbers car...
What are the chances someone could find a correct nonmatching block with all the correct digits but two of them in the wrong position?...and if you were going to restamp, wouldn't you just save yourself a lot of hassle and do it correctly?

Here's another thought. What if the Protecto-Plate's last 2 numbers are wrong and the engine is right? Could happen.... it's a human putting the numbers to the plate and a machine for the engine. Who might be the one more apt to make the mistake?

Does the motor date code line up? Seems to me someone at the factory just made a mistake transposing two numbers, either on the POP or block.

Good question, I'm new to Pontiac I didn't know they had a date casting. does anyone know where it is and about what date would be right for a '67 that if I remember right was built in October '66.

The block date code will be at the location where the distributor mounts in. Should be 4 or 5 characters.

That's why I nevr saw it before.

I have a 36113

and a little tag size number I think says:

L096, but it's hard to read

the firewall tag says 11B2, I think that's the build date?

any of this line up? thanks

The date code is the L096. I don't know what the 36133 is. Not enough digits to be the block casting number.
Date codes follow this pattern:
A=January
B=February....etc.
The two center digits would be the day of that month and the last digit is the last digit of the year.
So..... L=December, 09=9th, 6=1966.
That would make it a 1967 engine.
The 11B2 I'm not sure about. Usually, in my experience, it would be only three characters. Like 11B which would be 11=November, B= Second week.
That couldn't be your build date because it would predate the December casting date of the engine...and we know that didn't happen.
My experience is more in line with the '68 cars though..
