If you haven't got the (new) July HPP yet,you better hustle & pick one up.(before they are sold out)
It's gotta be one of the most interesting issues of late. FIRST on the "must read" list is a VERY INFORMATIVE article on the PURE STOCK MUSCLECAR DRAGS,written by Mark Weymouth ,forum member & contributor to this (455 HO) thread. Photography by 455 HO "Hot Shoe" Dan Jensen. VERY informative article outlining the concept, history & rules of the Pure Stock Drags. SECOND on the list is a "Shootout",featuring FOUR Pure Stock RAM AIR Pontiacs(including Jim Mino's NOTORIOUS first gen Bird & a Lucerne Blue 4 speed 70 T/A) THIRD is a 7 page article on a 63 Catalina 421 SD written by Forum member Rocky Rotella. GREAT stuff here if you like reading about "stock" Pontiacs & what they can do on the track. ENJOY!

Great issue, and the next several issues will show different engine combos and more to come in the Pure Stock Prep School series.

I was just reading the Pure Stock article this morning. The intro to it was great, and a good sales pitch for Pure Stock, too. Mark should be a novel writer! More motivation for me to go this route with my RAIII Formula when I restore it. I think the Formula has the potential to be slightly quicker than a comparably built RAIII T/A because it's a bit lighter and has probably a more effective "ram air" system. This would be true of the '71/'72 455 HO cars as well (gratuitous comment to keep the thread on topic...). But alas, it will be several years before I even start on it ![]() Have to keep this issue near the top of the stack...
