Sounds like a bargain.

Original and driveable with just 70K miles, for only a grand? Take it. If you're a scavenger you can make it back and then some on selling off the parts. If you're a purist, you can clean it up with a little work and keep it as original as possible. If you're a morphist, you could easily clone it and be happy with a "clone car". (Sounds like "clown car" to me ) In any situation, if you're ready to take it on as a hobby, and are truly interested, this is a great deal.

Like OMT said, if you will be happy with a 4 door car, jump on it. It actually could be a lot of fun, too. I'd change the transmission fluid and check the vacuum line leading to the vacuum modulator on the transmission. More than likely the fluid is a little low and/or it has some varnish buildup causing the slow shifting and flaring. If you take it somewhere to have the fluid changed, have them also do a band adjustment on the tranny, as torquing the bands to spec might also help. The cost of all of this is next to nothing. With only a grand in the car your mind is free to think of some pretty neat things to do with it, including a custom paint job if you so desire.

not to jump on your post but 4 dr cars are good deals and they are becoming more scarce then 2 dr and verts because so many have been parted out .I just picked up this 64 cat 4 dr .the neighbor wanted a grand for it .It's an original car with 107 k ,bought it and put it on the road 2 days later after changing the oil buffing it out and a good vacuum the old girl is far from perfect .but i've got more thumbs with this in the past week than I have with the GTOs. Have fun with the car that's what it's all about .
