i think you're right on the dt designation, and ih put them in everything at one time or another.

as someone else said, the dt series is the sbc in the diesel world. as long as the liner seals don't leak they run forever.

Is that R185 a 406 or 450 inliner ? They also made a 372 & 501 if I remember correctly.

my r 190 dump truck has the rd 450 in it. talk about a fuel swallowing torque monster!

the r 185's got a rd 372/ 374 on lp in it, supposedly overhauled shortly before it was parked. it's followed up by an overdrive trans which i want for a hauler project. it also, curiously enoguh has air brakes on it. if this thing's tight enough i may stuff a dt466 in it and run it.


what i was initally on the hunt for was a 50's "s" series cab and clip to swap over on to an 1800 series school bus chassis.i had a NICE 54 r160 bought and the guy backed out of the deal at the last minute on it.

as you can tell binders hold a serious interest for me also.

i don't know about the scouts but the ih nats are held in springfield, oh. it's about 2 hours from me.

i really need to get on repairing the floors in my diesel scout. it's the first one that ih engineering dept in ft wayne stuffed a nissan diesel in. i know the guy who bought it intitially from havester. it should pull a little better than 30 mpg.

That little nissan will get 30 easily from what I've heard.
I had a gasser scout II awhile back, I always dug the binders for their 4x4's.

i've got a gas 4cyl scout waiting in the wings also along with a 57 a-100 pickup, a 67 1200 4x4 and a 68 1100 4x4.

binders and pontiacs make a lethal combination!
