Concerning the flat filter on the WFO setup, I have found that it is not necessary.
(At least not in my situation) I have a 1976 455 Trans Am with Performer RPM intake.
I use the WFO base with a short round filter and the original lid. All is well. In my situation, it would be beneficial to re-machine the top of the manifold so that it is
approx. 1/4" +or- lower at the front carb bolts. Over time, the hood/scoop fit was so tight that the front lip of the scoop broke off. This is not noticable as it is covered
by the rubber seal. It should be noted that this issue has nothing to do with the type
of filter (round or flat) used.

Sorry guys I had a bad weekend changing a fuel pump on my truck
so I did not get to take the scoop photos yet, I'll go out to the garage
this week and take photos and post them,

I had the same problem with the front of my shaker rubbing the hood too hard at the front and sitting too low at the rear. I wore out the rubber seal on the scoop.

I dont know why edelbrock cant get the carb flange machined at the
right angle for a pontiac. The intake I bought in the 1990s was ok,
then I bought one about 2 years ago and the angel was kinda off.

Nice work!
I'm always happy to see someone solve their own problems and look factory.
I'll likely be putting a Dude scoop on a glass hood to cover my Victor/Dominator and not bother with the air cleaner issues.
