Bruce, I had an 1100 CC motorcycle rider thinking, "man, I'm never gonna race a GTO again" when I not only stayed side by side with him until I hit fourth gear[with three people in my car, none the less], but then totally blew his friggin" doors off when I hit the juice! I left him so far behind me, he was just a distant light in the black smoke cloud behind me!

My 65 GTO had a 428 with forged TRW pistons, cast rods with good bolts, Erson high-Flo III cam with an Edelbrock P-4B with a Holley 750 DP. The nitrous kit was an adjustable unit that I just installed the largest jets it came with in and ran it this way for a year and a half. Ran many bottles empty with those cast rods. Never broke one.

no way mr carter, it cant be done..cast rods explode at 334 hp or 4600 rpm, whichever comes first..everyone knows that!!!..carcrap and hootrod both say so..what are you crazy?..i think you're just a liar, like scott misus in the clubhouse...

funny, i never knew they would break, and i sure couldnt afford crowers or carrillos..hell my mickey thompsom aluminum rods have years of abuse and thousands and thousands of miles on them...they aint broke neither..

do pontiac guys get a freezer discount in these troubled economic times?..i wanna do my whole engine..

really thom, find a local racer/shop in your area and tell him the deal..you may be surprised at the answers you get..as a builder of toys, id put a motor in for a day just to advertise..the rules say its cool, so be smart and exploit them..paint the guys name all over the car..look at it from an advertising point of view..offer the shop the "opportunity" for exposure in a troubled society..

Thanks again guys for all the replies. As far as Im concerned, everyone answered my questions to the best of their ability. Some guys idea of a budget may be quite different than others. I apologize for any frustration I have caused with anyone. I totally agree that I said "one pass" but I meant it more as a rule (i.e. I only need to run the low ET once, not beat everyone indiviually). I will also say that, (and here comes more frustration) over the last week, the project has taken a bit of a turn. Though the bet is still on, I do plan on building a car I can keep, and race another day. Will it blow when I race it? Who knows, maybe. But I was looking, I guess, for more info along the lines of wat Cheif was saying, spend where it counts, skimp where I can. I know I can slap together a totally stock engine, throw a big plate on it, and pray. If it comes to it I may, who knows. Thanks again to all, and I apologize to anyone I may have pissed off, not my intentions at all. Oh, and Dude, FWIW, Im 22. So here comes the young guy flaming.

I say spray it as well. Be sure to insure adequate fuel delivery, carb & nos wise, Hit at about 200. It should last a couple of passes at least there. I've been spraying my original 79 TA w/135,000 miles 400 at 150 for at least 2 years so I feel you can make it to.

You can build a good lightweight short block, pick up the heads I posted a link to and still spray it. Ya need a roll cage and traction aids as well as fuel system etc. Not easy to build a low 11 sec car from scratch on the cheap and expect it to run the number overnight either.
