The air here can be worse than that Mr Pushrod. Unless you come in by mid June or Sept expect 6500' + up to 7800.

Go man Go, I`ve raced a new Viper and a Vette. The old 64 destroyed the Vette. The Viper barely got me out of the hole, caught up to him a few seconds into second gear and never looked back. I love the feeling of opening a can of whoopass on the newer cars.

The real kicker of this story was I raced him while my car was low on gas and you guessed it ran out of gas on the way home to Lemon Valley. I would not leave my car on the side of the road and there was no telephones for 2 miles so I pushed my car the whole way to the gas station. I was one tired puppy. Robert

Your best asset will be an auto in the Pontiac. It is a BEAOCH to get these stick shift cars going. My GTO will run a 12.70 in total street trim, but that is just a 2.20 60 ft. I can't give it any gas in 1st or it will fry the tires.
The viper probably has 335 tires on the back, luckily it only has the 450 horse motor. Don't underestimate the viper, it is still an 11 sec car in stock form. If he bolts up some slicks or drag radials it could get interesting. I have seen alot of these new cars that they say will do this and that, but when they get to the strip the BS stops. They rarely get within a half second of what the Car and Driver test drivers can get out of them. I was at the strip two weeks ago and watched a new Z06 thrash down to a 11.80 with drag radials after about 5 runs. They are supposed to do 11.70 with stock tires. Not with that driver. |

They rate that year viper at 12.20's from the factory, remember.....that's perfect conditions, proffesional driver and a sticky track......at sea level! We are at over 5000', he can't drive and he has regular radials . 13.50 car all day baby . Easy money.

Spankin Vipers, Cobras, and 750 and smaller street bikes is fun... 900-1000 if they have a large rider who cant get it moving well can get beat relatively easy too.
A buddy with a 02 WS6 TA raced a smack talkin Viper guy, the TA was NA stock internal with only bolt ons, and put about 6 lengths on him. That was near sea level in Charleston. Sure shut up the Viper loudmouth.. Stomp a mudhole in his rear.. Doing it with a 400 just ads insult to injury too..

Long story short, I've finally purchased all the parts to get my car going!!!!!
Since pulling the engine out it's been a rocky road. I've thought about a hundred times of selling the car. I've go as far as selling/returning most of the parts I've purchased about 10 months ago. But in the past couple of wks I've purchased those parts plus everything else to get the car running (sold stocks that the company I work for gives to there employees every couple years). Next step is to put the engine/tranny in. I'm hoping to have that done within the next month or so. And then to have the car driving down the road by years end. I'll post some pics when mrpushrod and myself put the engine/tranny in! |

I went to a test and tune session a couple of years back where a Viper "club" was attending. A couple of them went low 12's, most were slower. I whipped up on them pretty good, we were running 11.60-11.70's at that time......Cliff

Hopefully I'm done with the notion of selling it. I'm jus waiting to get the converter hup turned so I can get it installed, it's just taking longer then thought. I am having trouble finding motor mount to frame bolts though. I was hoping to get some ARP's, if anyone has some for sell let me know. They look to be 1 inch long 1/2 wide 20 pitch thread.

I'm Pontiac through and through, but those Vipers can be quick. Here is a video of my friends Viper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGT3qJ1DurI It is not stock, but warmed up to current ACR output. Sticky tires and a little nitrous really wakes those things up. In the video, you can hear his clutch slipping all the way through first gear. LOOK at the MPH... Much more potential there with a better clutch. I went down the track with him w/out nitrous at 11.9, both of us are not small (I'm 250 lbs.). Its very reliable too, just went 250 miles one way to a car show in KY. 6 mpg on the street, 26 mpg on the highway! Very comfortable once you shoe-horn yourself into it. I could not believe all of the cell phones popping out to take pictures along the way.
