We I WAS going to go to the track last night...but while getting ready to strap down the car, I heard a knocking sound up fornt and looked and the outer ring of my new balancer was wobbling. It is the 90020 sfi balancer and the outer ring has completely seperated from the hub!! Just glad it didn't happen @ the track. Oh well still had fun with a friends car...he went from 11.8 to 11.43 with just a fuel pump and line change!!! Next will be a bigger carb.. Bill

I had one and noticed one of the screws was missing, when I checked all the rest they were all loose. I got a replacement screw and locktighted them all. I used it for a while, but swiched back over to the ATI.

I have the PP SFI balancer, and check the screws regularly. I have not found them loose yet, but will inspect it more closely from now on.

I am a big fan of ATI and TCI Balancers. Never had an issue with either one.

Does anyone know if the ATI 917160 has a 3 or 4 bolt pulley setup? I am reading it as a 3 bolt chevy style.

Very common, don't skimp on balancers. Buy a good one, ATI, Fluidampr, Innovators West are some.

The pulley gets centered on the register. Easy mod. |

ATI is 3 bolt. Just get a chevy crank pulley and open the center hole to the Pontiac dimension.

RARE can drill their aluminum pulleys for 3 and 4 holes.

But we shouldn't have to get new pulleys or drill our pulleys to fit a Damper. We pay more $ for them because they are listed for a Pontiac, not a chevybb, so that extra money should be it fits our stuff money! One other thing is the Pontiac doesn't need as much material removed to fit as the bbc, so that's less machining time. But we still are charged more. I say they make it fit, and fit our pulleys, or they don't need to make 'em at all.

Well I have no problems drilling the crank pulley, I had to for the blower hub, so what the heck will some more holes be...think of it as "lightening"!!!!! I guess that jegs will get my money this time...they have an ATI in stock...unless anyone cen tell me if a fluid dampener is better. Thanks for the input....definitely disappointed in the pro-products brand. Bill

Summit sfi ballancer!!!! Awesome piece 100% bolt on, made by a ex Top Fuel Racer, uses STOCK 4-bolt pattern like BHJ except the Outer ring doesn't move, Butler used one on their 467 Engine masters challenge engine, good piece 230$ better than the PP by far

I am trying to get the Vortech People to design a Crank Pulley for both the S/C set-ups that can use the 3 bolt chebby type Pontiac Balancer. This combination would replace the weak 6 bolt factory early Pontiac multi-piece balancers when using the S/C kits.
The 4 bolt stuff fits great as many people saw at the Norwalk event. Tom V

If you are using a stock steel crank pulley, just spin it a drill it.

My PP Balencer took out the timing cover on my last pass at PSN this year. Went to a romac. Only had about 15 runs.

the summit piece is nice but it wont fit with a AP front plate. It is too large a diameter. I was impressed with the quality but had to send it back.

I just pulled the piece of crap off.... so far 3 of the 6 small screws are backed out and bent..fortunately the outer ring just spins freely and moved in and out about 1/4", it only scraped up my trigger wheel a little but no damage to it and it rubbed the bottom of the timing tab area on the cover. I am not going to try to remove any of the other screws to see how it is attached...held together.I thought that the 6 #12 screws just held on the red ring with their name on it. I am going to try and get this warrantied..it is only 4 months old. If they replace it, I sure won't use it on anything but a street engine. I figured it was a decent part since our pontiac vendors are selling them....NOT!!!! I will post some pics for reference in a little bit. Bill
here's a link to ATI and it shows how this piece of crap comes apart!! http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co...pers/index.htm |

Hate to hear it. I am running one and in great shape. Replaced the BHJ unit that spun. Just checked it for TDC and still right on. I have also sold quite a few and no issues from customers............... so far.
If these are supposed to be SFI rated as to not come apart. How are they getting past the SFI rating. Hum............ NHRA went to this system to eliminate this problem. |
