I sent you a PM 73 Formula.
SD Formula - thanks for the sample. I had a shop mix up a qaurt in DuPont ChromaOne. the camera result was a tad light. its very close, but not dead on. I have some of the darker pigments to adjust the color. I have yet to spray it as the machine work is still being done on the engine. |

the paint they mix what light compared to the sample you provided. I have yet to play with the pigments to match it. they said this is the best their camera could do.

SD engine paint code
DS178 G - DuPont ChromaOne it comes a tad light. the chip is the correct color and the upper right corner is this paint. I have pigments of #831 & 828 to darken the color. the pigment breakdown is: dupont # amount per qt 801 315.4 806 468.4 831 499.8 828 524.4 7020 924.6 7030 1038.7 Again, this is close but not a direct match. I have not played with the pigments yet. I will soon as the engine comes back from the machine shop to be assembled this week.  hope this helps

I'm sorry,
I would rather have Jeff's Red on Red 74 SD on E-bay rather than the Red 73 SD on E-bay.Only because Jeff's car is much more complete and # matching than the 73 car and cheaper.I dont know what some of you are thinking.A SD-455 is a SD-455 no matter what year it is just like the 69-70 R/A IV motor's.2 year production run,any of you with one should be happy.After all what are you buying a Trans Am or a motor ? JMO |

Hey Duane, there are quit of few 73 cars out there that have two tone interiors. It was available when ordering however allot of buyers didnt not opt to have them built that way.

Hey Larry, I hear you but with that blue graphics on the exterior of that white car it seems to work very well!
If you look at the breather pipe on the passenger side valve cover it might explain why a low mileage car has been totally restored. Surprised he didnt have that plated or paint it. Wow! seems odd to leave such a noticeable item left crusty???????????? |

I am hoping you SD gurus can help me out. I am getting read to start assembling the engine, but I want to have all the bolt-on do-hickeys cleaned and painted before I start. I am not going for full out concourse at the moment so I am trying to match the finished w/ paint. I know top notch stuff would be NOS or repro if it is close. Just trying to get this car back on the road from its 23 yr hiatus and look somewhat decent. I have the current paints from eastwood in stock: Clear Zinc, Zinc Phosphate, Gold and Silver Cad, Alumiblast, detail grey and cast iron manifold paint. I have other colors from past projects as well.
The item sin question are: EGR – gold cad w/ cast iron base? Carb vacuum thingy (bolts to intake on driver’s side by throttle bracket) – clear zinc or silver cad? Valve cover caps – silver cad? Bare metal/ detail grey? Oil pressure switch – clear zinc? Fan – semi gloss black w/ stainless flaps? Don’t think they are aluminum. Alternator fan – gold or silver cad? I have seen both. I have pictures of Brewster’s, SDbob’s and some other cars from the T/A nats. While they have the real plating on their parts, I am using them as reference to match. Any input is appreciated. |

SD Engine Paint Formula.....
After getting sample cards from SDFormula and TAkid, I compared them with the pint I had mixed according to the formula below. The formula below was very close to the sample from SDFormula. I applied the color without any reducer/hardener and it was very slightly darker than SDFormula's sample. I would say it will probably be an exact match once everything is mixed. I will be using the pint to paint my engine and will do a comparison once the engine is sprayed. So to sum it up if SDFormula's sample is accurate for the 73-74 engines, then the formula below will get you extremely close to the original color.

Well I tried my best to match the factory finished a closely as I could on some of the engine parts. here is how they turned out.
 whilst some are not dead on, the are close. I did the tranny and dist as well.
