Looking at the auction offer results, I see that two $40K offers were made. Decent # for an HO Formy!

I could have started a new thread on this but since it is my 455th post I figured that it ought to go here!
What is the general consensus on the most heat resistant engine paint? I had a nice mix made to match the '71 color and of course it burned off the exhaust ports in less than 100 miles! |

Chris,...my method for keeping the exhaust port paint relatively healthy, is impossible to do on a together-in-a-car deal, but FWIW, here it is. After cleaning the bare heads, I glassbead the ports till they're spotless. Then a quick rinse off with laquer thinner. Then I dry spray, fog coats of VHT High Heat White header paint. Very dry,...very light coats. Usually 5 or 6, with about 1/2 hour in between each coat. Let them sit over night, at 70 degrees plus, & then shoot my favorite brand of engine paint. I have several cans of old obsolete TRW Service Line paint for the '69-70 Metallic Blue, & I use the expensive OEM paint for '71 & '72. My '69 350HO is the longest time use I've had using this process, & it still looks good, just a bit darkened.

2many (is there really any such thing as too many??), I first ran the engine in the summer of 2000. Have about 900 miles on the car. Hours running time? Hard to say, since I had to run the engine a ton before the car ever rolled one single inch. It's a long story, but my trusted machine shop miss-bord the block. Had to tear it down & replace a few parts. Maybe 80 hours total.

I wish all of you and your families a good & safe Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the Turkey and may the Cowboy's lose ( blame it on T.O.) and maybe the Lion's win there first of the year.

this is my first post here in response to ricksgto asking about the green ho from texas. i did buy it from an add on here. flew from grand rapids to austin and drove the car back. vinyl top was removed to expose red primer and headliner was falling down on me. pass power window was inop and it was 90 + for most of the drive back. a/c inop too. i bent a lot of minds on the highway though going 80 mph most of the way back with 3.08 cogs. looked like somthing joe dirt would drive! car is an original laurentian green with black vinyl top no wing 455 ho ram air auto. with 30 options. i'll post phs later. here's a couple pics for now. i am tearing it down for a complete resto with pure stocks in mind. i live 20 min. from stanten!

Hey Kooter, welcome and great story on getting the car home, and I was wondering about possibly driving the car to the Dallas area! I remember the guy saying the motor had been rebuilt and was pretty stout, sounds like you found that out first hand. Post more pics when you can and keep us updated on it. We'd love to see some pics and info on your T/A too

Welcome aboard, RA kooter.
Nice snag on the HO RA Formy! You should have a built-in advantage for your Pure Stock Drags build, being that Dan Jensen, Scott Tiemann and the Weymouths are in your back yard. As a matter of fact, are you aware that DJ just bought a Laurentian Green '71 455HO Formy M22 car? He's building it for the PSD's as well. Keep us informed, and post more pics as you have the time.

Kooter-
Congratulations. Looks like a great car. Definitely a good starting point if it was able to make the drive home. How long ago was that car for sale? Probably before I got the bug earlier this year. I doubt I would have missed one like that considering I am in Austin..... -Tom |
