It appears that the 5th character is a "strike" to obliterate /eliminate the number underneath?
That would make the # read 981348 which does NOT show up in my 67-75 Firebird MPC. The "strike" could be taken for a 7,which would give us 9813748 which does NOT show up in the parts book either. 981148 DOES,but it's tow ball (trailer hitch accessory) P/N listed in parts book is Group # 12.966 Rear end finish panel assembly 9851259 1970-73 ALL F. (I am assuming this is the plastic one) Last edited by 2manyT/A'S; 11-20-2008 at 02:45 PM. |

I guess that panel didn't stick around long enough to get a number in the parts catalog. I like the little fisher coach logo
Its hard to see in the picture because my camera doesn't do close ups well. Thats an excuse to get a new one !!

Here is a 70 only part. 70 400 Formulas without Ram Air came with a dual snorkel air cleaner and a chrome air cleaner lid. I think 71 had black with decals. (A shameless plug for my chrome air cleaner for sale in the 71-81 Firebird parts for sale section.)

correction; all 1970 Formulas received chrome air cleaner lids (as well as valve covers). it was a part of the std engine dress up kit for all 1970 Formulas and GTOs... something that moved to the "dealer option" list the following year. Since the parts were actually available for several years afterwards they dont necessarily qualify as true 70-only parts.

Jonny,
Is this the shifter handle you refer to as #1 in your post? I bought a bunch a stuff from a guy recently which had been removed from his 70 Formula. I don't recall the build date but the dist I bought is dated A290 and the carb is dated 1350. It was a Van Nuys car and it had deluxe interior. |

On another note- two more possible unique items 1)OPH said on another recent thread that 70 had an odd length yoke on the driveshaft. 2)What about the vented gas cap? 70 only? |
