My love for hot rods grew out of cars like that whether it was a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. it’s all the same flavor! Sure brings back some fond childhood memories of clinging to the dash and listening to Molly Hatchet or BTO blaring on the 8-track while my step brother was token on a number and sliding sideways up to our bus stop to drop me off in his ‘68 Charger. If my mom had known I don’t think half my male relatives or my dad for that matter would have lived long!!

Definitely had the BTO going on that underdash 8-track tied into the factory am radio. The best was Steppenwolf "Born to be Wild". That was our theme song. Looking back it was a pretty cool and much easier time. thanks for the comments.

My first car was a 65 Catalina with Ventura trim. Nightwatch blue. 421 H.O., 400 Turbo, 3.90 gears. It was my dad's first new car. Got it for graduation in 79. Still have it today. We're growing old togther. It's aging a lot better than me! Mike

Steppenwolf... I remember my aunt and uncle sneaking me into “Easy Rider” at the drive-in on the floorboard of my uncle’s new Chevy 4X4 PU. This was 1972 (1973 body style truck) and the movie had been out a few years of course. I was seven and my aunt had my eyes covered through most of the movie. Damn Hippies! LOL! In late 1971 he bought a new 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda 440, auto, purple with the white top, stripes interior and a set of rally wheels. He set me on his lap and let me drive it. That was the first time I ever drove a car over 70mph. My dad had let me drive before but only a real low speed, because he was saner, maybe? In 1977 my uncle bought a new 400, 4-spd black and gold TA. Man was that cool riding around in with “Smokey and the Bandit” out. It didn’t have T-tops though.

My first car was a 67 Firebird 400 car. I got it in 1979 when I was 15 years old. My Dad woke me up late one night to help him put the car in the garage after some late night partying which resulted in front end damage of the bird. He said you fix it up and its yours. I put a bone yard front clip on that car and drove it to school when I was 16 years old. My buddy had a 70 Chevelle with a 396back then and he wanted a piece of me. I told him bring it on. Well I beat him many times and never heard the end of it. None of my friends cars could beat me at that time. Thats what started it all. since then I have owned:

1965 GTO convert/4 spd
1974 Trans Am/4 spd
1969 GTO/4 spd
and currently own a 65 GTO hdtp/4 spd
I guess you could say I'm hooked!
