I forgot my camera..4 door slowly going into this guys front yard, wheels are flush with the grass anyway. 35 degrees and the wind blowing 40mph so I didn't spend too much time looking at it. The hinges were a little stiff to say the least, but I was able to peak underneath the hood, aircleaner was still on it and the engine was completly untouched, wish I could find judges this way. Anyway, if anyone is interested in this car let me know, I have none. He said it was a 4 barrel, but I didn't confirm that, but I can. It actually was in pretty good shape. Shame it wasn't parked in the garage with the other two, you wouldn't believe how nice they were...or could be in a weekend..DW

Have'nt seen ya since the Clinton Township Gratiot cruise a few years back. Hope you're doing OK. My brother Mike (with the green 71 lemans sport) picked up an 18,000 mile 62 Tempest with the 195 1bbl. Neat little car. Body in good shape interior needs work. Trying to get it to the GM tech center this year for the Hot Rod power tour. Should take out your 63 and get 1 of every year out there!!!

I am going to try not to race so much next year, so my show schedule should be a bit more "flexible"... K

Back in those days, they didn't have the quality control (cough) of today and lots of weird things happened on the assembly lines. However, you have a lot of things that are adding up wrong and I would have to believe that there is more to it.
Did you verify the VIN on the title matches the one on the jamb? |

Title is wrong per vin number. I belive you said your vin started with a 162P on the door jam tag & on the front of the engine. Per Pontiac that is a 1--Tempest, 62--1962 production year, P--Built at the Pontiac Mich. plant. I would contact Greg Walters of the Little Indians. He is the resident "61" expert. Maybe he can shed some light on the subject!!!! Also get a PHS documentation. That will tell you just about everything you need to know as far as when built, options as it left the plant, where it was shipped to, etc, etc. www.phs-online.com

In 1961, Pontiac built a total of 37393 Tempests (7432 Coupes, 22557 4-door Sedans
and 7404 Wagons). I received this info from PHS - Automotive Services |

The LeMans appeared as a show car at the end of '61 to positive reviews, and production began. I think all the '61 LeMans were white exterior, two-door "sport coupe" -- pillared hardtop -- bodies with front bucket seats, no convertibles. None of the books I have show production numbers, but two of them have photographs of white coupes. I'd guess any '61 Pontiac with LeMans badging is a pretty rare car.

Something doesn't add up there - I found my production info and will post it in a separate thread.
