I'm at a similar point in my resto on my 66. This is a great thread, and I've spun off it down many side trips.

Was wondering what you were using between the tank and the trunk floor. I decided to go with regular roofing "tar paper". I'm using strips under the straps also. You can see a few pics of my project in my profile.

When I bought the car, it came with a new gas tank, straps and rubber pad. So I will use it between the tank and body. I haven't given any thought about using something between the straps and tank.
