looking for a picture of the rear alt bracket found on some 73/74 cars. anyone have a good shot of it? I believe it bolts to both the t-stat housing and intake as well as the alt? was this on all alts or just certain ones?

As far as my car goes, it is used on the large case alternators which are mounted stationary. Belt tension is by a pulley apparatus mounted on the engine just below the A/C compressor.

I dont have a tensioner, but there is a boss with a bolt in it on the back side of my alt. it s is stamped 1100928 55A. is this even the correct at for a 74 SD non A/C? has quadraphonic sound via 8 track.....ooooooooohhh yeeaaaaaa.

A non-A/C car would have had a 37 amp alternator.

A non-A/C car with rear defrost or power windows would have a 55 amp alternator.

The bigger 80 amp alternator with the idler pulley came on A/C cars with rear defrost.

Do you still need a shot of the rear alt. bracket ? Just removed one sat. to replace thermostat and housing . Waiting on new housing , is that an SD only bracket ?

yes, I still need a picture of it. I have an idea of what it looks like , but want to verify. I do not think it is SD only. the parts books do not mention anything about SD, HO ect. I believe it has to do with alt size (amps). My book says the number should be 496663. not sure if this is the right one as several were offered.

I will try to get a pic tomorrow night and post . It is a 74 air car with power windows etc. so I guess it would have the big alt. By the way white with blue lettering no hood bird from factory (has one now ) and red int. with rear console , SD, M40 & 3.08 rear .

takid455, if it doesn't have AC, I don't think that alternator is correct.

The 55A alternator is correct for your car if it has A/C and does NOT have either power windows or electric rear defroster. If you have either of those with A/C you would have the 80A alternator which mounts differently.

The PN you show is correct for the 74 55A alternator. When was your car built? There is a new PN alternator that was used late in the production year. I believe the 55A version ends in 428

I do not have a/c or p/w. I do have a ref def. my car was built 6/74. if this is not the 'correct' alt, what would be the 'correct' one and would it require a rear alt bracket?
