I don't even miss power steering in my 66 GTO.... or power brakes either. Yeah, I've got manual steering and brakes in mine. I had a hole appear in the front to rear brake line last week and that made me a bit nervous. Tho not as nervous as "The Warden" was, as we had the 2 year old grandson with us. It was his first ride in the GTO. So with that, if you do only one upgrade to the 64, 65 and 66 A-bodies, whether they have power or manual brakes, get rid of the single reservoir and go with a dual reservoir... just for safety sake. That's my next big project this year.

I was at the 2004 GTOAA Nationals with a bunch of friends in Detroit. We drove down Woodward Ave in a pack of about 10 cars. I noticed my brake pedal felt a little low. Then when we were at a stop light, and I was behind a VERY nice 66 GTO. The pedal went to the floor. Not only did it go to the floor, but the car started inching forward holding the pedal as hard as I could. ![]() Like an idiot I somehow managed to get the car back to the hotel. We found the local Pontiac dealer had a master (single master to replace the one I had) in stock and primed. One of the techs brought it to me, put it in the car and wanted nothing in return. He simply said " I never get the chance to work on these old cars. Its my pleasure". Call me a rebel, but Im still on a single master. I wont tell you about the 64 Bonne convert that I had and lost the brakes going 70 MPH on the highway. Thats a story for another day. In other words, good idea Gary!! |

LOL... thanks Paul. I never thought I'd even think of making the switch to the dual reservoir. But the little guy in back was the deciding factor. And after that ride, when the garage door is open he wants to goooooo. And I can't stand to see him screem and cry cause he can't. You'd think the world had come to an end. LOL
